Overview

This foundational course provides an introductory understanding of the historical and legal contexts of family and domestic violence (FDV). The content includes readings, videos and reflective activities. Explore sector definitions, relationship dynamics, social prevalence, impacts on victims and service responses.

  • Gain an understanding of the statistics surrounding all aspects of FDV.
  • Explore the different interpretations of FDV over time and between professions.
  • Discover the complexities of FDV, contributing factors and relationship dynamics.
  • Understand how FDV impacts adults, children, families and ultimately the community.
  • Learn the best practice model of integrated service responses that supports victims and engages with perpetrators.

Upon completion of the course, participants are issued with a Certificate of Completion for AVERT Family Violence: Fundamentals.

If you are intending to use AVERT Family Violence for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, please check with your relevant professional body about their CPD guidelines.

This is an entry-level course with no assumed knowledge or necessary work experience with FDV.
