Family DOORS

The Family DOORS screening tool is a three-part detection and response framework, for wellbeing and safety risks. DOORS complements AVERT Family Violence by providing a core understanding of risks to safety and wellbeing for families who are separating or separated.

DOORS offers a shared language for risk identification and response across helping-profession fields. DOORS screening includes:

  • Safety and mental health risks
  • Parenting stress
  • Developmental risk for children
  • Client well-being and that of their children
  • Guides for practitioner response
  • Referral and follow up.

DOORS is designed for use in the family law, human and community services sectors by:

  • Court staff
  • Family law lawyers
  • Legal services staff
  • Family dispute resolution practitioners
  • Family Relationships Centre staff
  • Child contact service staff
  • Parenting orders program staff
  • Counsellors
  • Social workers
  • Psychologists
  • Private practitioners
